PopPop, will you teach me...

how to shave...
Noticing facial hair on his face, our 15 year old grandson turned to his PopPop for instruction.
Realizing the honor and blessing that Jared wants to share a milestone in his life with him, John gathered together a new razor, shave cream and after shave and the two of them headed to the bathroom
where they lathered up and began
instructions included stern advice about sliding the razor sideways and how (in guy talk) it would make hamburger of his face. If that should happen, he showed him his handy-dandy styptic pencil

men stuff continued
then the inevitable... a nick
some repair and an inspection
rinsing...drying
finishing with good smelling stuff
then it was off to home depot

their relationship is a gift
Oh, that we would continually use our gifts to influence our grandchildren on things eternal

Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.
Deuteronomy 4:9

Oh, Lorraine...this is one of the sweetest posts ever! What a gift that your grandson has that kind of relationship with his grandfather. And your prayer that your relationships might be used for things eternal...yes!!

Awwwwww, cute, LDH. Wish all kids were as lucky as your darling grandchildren. The world would then be a different place. Thanks for sharing. Your grandson deserves an ice cream sundae for letting you post! ha ha Susan

It is so amazing to watch children grow. They start off so small and with a blink of an eye, they are so grown up.

What a beautiful post! I love that he let you take photos of it while he was learning - he must love his grandma as much as his grandpa!

This is such a special post, I don't think there are many teenagers that will let their grandmas post about their first time shaving!
I really hope our one grandson is still close to Grandpa when he is ready to shave, he's only 5 1/2 but follows Larry everywhere. He 'complains' but I know he loves having his shadow. Our older grandsons are too far away, (one is 16 and already shaving, they are a few provinces away) so it's wonderful to have a few that are closer.

I loved reading this, Lorraine ~ the special relationship between grandfather and grandson is such a gift, indeed. I love that at 15, Jared continues to want his PopPop's advice. When I see my husband with his grandsons and how they just gush when they see him, my heart overflows.

What a precious relationship! I was amazed they would allow you to chronicle the journey and share it with us. I thought of the Scripture about the older teaching the younger - this is a perfect example.
