Think on These Things #18 ~ Fathers

Thank you , Dear LORD, for the fathers in our family. Strengthen those still with us, guide them and give them Your wisdom as they seek to raise the children You gave them, in a manner that reflects Your kindness, patience and love. The task is great, LORD. The influence of the world is unrelenting. Draw them ever closer to You and be their constant help.
Nineteen children are represented by the men in this photo.

“Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children– how on the day that you stood before the LORD your God at Horeb, the LORD said to me, ‘Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children so.’
Deuteronomy 4:9-10

You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
Deuteronomy 11:19

Hear this, you elders; give ear, all inhabitants of the land! Has such a thing happened in your days, or in the days of your fathers? Tell your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children to another generation.
Joel 1:2-3

I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old,  things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us.  We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments; and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God.
Psalms 78:2-8

Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who greatly delights in his commandments! His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.
Psalms 112:1-2

Thank you for this lovely post...I no longer have my father but have only happy memories of him and the knowledge that he is with our heavenly Father now.

A lovely Father's Day post, Lorraine. I like the collage; through your blog I have become familiar with all the "dads" in your family. These are wonderful scripture passages you have shared on this special weekend. John has shingles and is in terrible pain so I did not post a father's day tribute - but I did put a small collage honoring my dad on my sidebar. Blessings to you and each member of your family this weekend.

This will be my 18th year without my Dad. I still miss him so much, especially since Mom has been so sick. But, I wouldn't have wanted him to see her this way. God is so good...even during those tough times!!! Happy Father's Day to the men in your life!!!

Beautiful post! My dad wasn't a Christian and I don't know where he stood before God when he died but I do hope he made peace with God in his last moments. I miss him dreadfully (even after almost 30 years). He was a father who gave everything he had for his wife and family.

I love seeing the group of fathers in your life...but even more, I love reading the Words of Life that you have posted today. Such encouraging and challenging Scriptures!

(We are having some problems with our internet server. I tried several times last night to link to "Think On These Things" but with no success...I thought...so I didn't add your button to my post. But when I had a comment this morning from someone new to me, I came back and saw that, indeed, the link had posted! So now I'm officially joining the party! Thank you so much for hosting!)

Yesterday was my third Father's Day without my dad and I miss him more each year. I realize that his life and the kind of man he was has blessed me more than I can imagine. I thank my Heavenly Father for him each dad. Thanks for such a sweet, heartfelt, post.
