Baked Cider Doughnuts

A third attempt at baked doughnuts and we really like these!
Apple butter and apple cider along with Maple Syrup make a delicious doughnut.
I will be whipping these up frequently.
Baked Cider Doughnuts
slightly adapted from this recipe: Lemon Drop

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 large egg, lightly beaten
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup apple butter
1/3 cup pure maple syrup
1/3 cup apple cider
1/3 cup sour cream (I used fat-free)

Directions
Preheat oven to 400F
Spray doughnut pan with cooking spray

In medium bowl, whisk together first 5 ingredients.

In large bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients
Fold wet ingredients into dry ingredients blending just until combined

Spoon about 2 1/2 Tbs. batter into pan cavities or use a piping bag, fitted with large round open tip to pipe into pan.

Bake 10 minutes.  Cool several minutes.

Run a knife around edges of donuts and flip out onto a cooling rack

Brush melted butter onto each doughnut and roll in cinnamon sugar.

Cool pan and re-spray before proceeding with each batch.

Recipe yielded 14 doughnuts.

All my favorite ingredients! The other day, I told John that I call him Mr. Maple on the blog. He laughed and said, I should call him Mr. Sugar Free Maple (that's what he uses on his pancakes etc.)

Hope you enjoy your day, Lorraine.

I have a jar of homemade apple butter, leftover from a recent canning jamboree that got out of control, so I need nothing, but an appetite, to recreate these, and I was born with that.

Let's see, a cider doughnut or peach yogurt? How could anyone serve these yummy looking doughnuts and be turned down? I know people who would be thrilled if I made these.

I love all your recent posts! The baby caught is such a wonderful series ... you could publish that! The color is so good too! I made your pumkin scones for the book club, if you saw the post! Enjoyed by all (the scones).

You're making me feel guilty, Lorraine. Guilty for poking holes in canned biscuits last night, frying them up, sprinkling powdered sugar on top, then calling them do-nuts. (hehe)

These look so delicious! I've been craving doughnuts, and look forward to trying this recipe. I'll have to save up for the pure maple syrup though. Where we live, it is quite costly! ☺ Thanks for sharing. Visiting from Petra's WOW. Happy Wednesday! ☺

PS...Our first two initials are the same. My stands for Larri Dawn. What's your middle name?

These look great and I've got a donut pan ordered at the local kitchen store so I can make them next weekend. One question: I was going to make my own apple butter and was wondering if you had used sweetened or unsweetened? Thanks!
