With a Grateful Prayer and a Thankful Heart: Re-purposed Curtains for the Patio

Re-purposed Curtains for the Patio

We spend a lot of time on our patio
and usually have most of our meals here.
Every time I visit my friend Sue @Pear Tree Lane Farmhouse
I admired her front porch with curtains.
(actually I admire everything about Sue!)
I asked her how they held up through the season and she
reassured me that with just a washing they would be fine.
I had two pair of those really long sheer panels (from the 90's) that I have used in several bedrooms.  I cut each panel in half and hemmed them.  I actually used the original hem as a pocket for the rod because I had just enough fabric for the length I wanted.
John bought and cut electrical conduit for the rods and simply hung them using large teacup hooks.
The white lights have been here of a few years and add a warm glow and lots of ambiance.
The curtains add a romantic flair and are beautiful as they blow in the breeze.

The curtains look pretty tied back or hanging freely.

I didn't have enough curtains to hang in every opening but I wouldn't really want them in the other areas.
The side of the patio where the picnic table sits has a backdrop of ferns (and hibiscus).
Once while staying at a B&B (Lovelace Manor in Lancaster, PA) we admired the huge
field of ferns they had growing.
We were happy to accept a boxful to take home to our own garden!
 Care to sit a spell?

Your patio looks lovely! I love how curtains look when used outdoors :-)

That looks wonderful! I love the lattice work on your patio too. Everything looks so lush and green.
I have bags of those sheers too. I saved them, as they are mych nicer than the ones you buy now. Mine are mostly ecru, and 90 in, from the 70's!
You never know when you will need them, LOL!

Oh - it looks absolutely stunning. I LOVE IT! It is perfect. I have been thinking about doing that on my front porch. I have a ton of very lightweight sheets in a pale, pale yellow..and for some reason I am attracted to pale yellow this Summer. Maybe I need a little extra sunshine in my life. You have certainly inspired me here- xoDiana

Yes, yes. I would love to sit a spell where no mosquitoes were nipping at my extremities. That bank of ferns is gorgeous. Love the mood the curtains create.

Love the curtains, LDH. Looks like such a delightful place to have dinner. What DO you do about mosquitoes? Do you have them? That's the only deterrent for me. Susan

Your patio is a dream! I love it! It was suggested to me 2 years ago to do something along the same lines...but =(..it never happened. Maybe next summer? We have re-done our flower bed and it turned out delightful. One of these days I'll get a picture posted. I need to get back outside....hubby is laying flagsone for a small breakfast patio. Our daughter thought it up and worked so hard on it....he is finishing up. The stones are way too heavy for me to lift, I wish I could help!

I put curtains up on the corner of my porch as a sort of sun filter. I use a rod and hooks etc. My husband is a retired electrician. Why did we not think of using conduit? Sheer curtains are a gentle and a bit sexy addition to summer.

Your patio is beautiful! So peaceful and relaxing and the addition of the curtains is just right. We are getting ready to put in a patio outside the double doors we had installed in our master bedroom. Your photos inspired me - I can't wait for us to get ours finished so I can add some pretty things.

This is so beautiful! I also loved the tablecloth. This is exactly what we would like to do to our back patio. Right now it isn't even used. I've also seen curtains made from drop cloths and that seems to look nice also.
