Strawberry Pie

I got this recipe many years ago from someone who is not only
a very dear friend
but someone who also shares my birthday!
I don't think she reads my blog, but I love her lots!
This pie is so good!
The note I wrote on my stained recipe card is...
The BEST!
Strawberry Pie

PRINT RECIPE

3 Tablespoons cornstarch
1 1/2 cups sugar (It is a SWEET dessert, you might want to reduce the sugar.  We like it sweet)
1 1/2 cups water
3 oz box strawberry Jell-O
2 cups sliced strawberries

Pre-bake a 10" pie shell.

Line bottom with the sliced strawberries

Combine cornstarch, sugar and water in small saucepan.  Bring to a boil and simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened.  Add the Jell-O and stir until dissolved.  Pour over the strawberries and refrigerate until set.

Serve with whipped cream
Slice strawberries and pre-bake pie shell
After cooking the Jell-O filling, pour over strawberries
 Chill until set

Pipe or spoon on whipped cream

Lorraine, I love how you did the whipped cream on this pie. You might be seeing the same treatment on my blog one of these days--with your name on it, of course.

BTW, I agree that angel food cake from a mix can be pretty good and the height is more predictable. It's the egg white problem (too many cream pies at my house) that inspired me.

Sounds like 4-H is just one more thing we have in common. Funny that you got counted off for no dessert and now we would consider that rather virtuous. But I always serve dessert myself. Doesn't seem like a nice meal without it.

Lorraine, this not only sounds yummy but those photos are masterpieces! I was looking at a strawberry pie recipe yesterday, wondering what to do with the fresh strawberries in my frig (wanted something different). Will definitely make this. Feel free to link this to the Simple Pleasures party. It's perfect.

Wow, that looks delicious. I have never made strawberry pie. There was a place near where I went to college in Ohio, Big Boys. They sold it, it was wonderful. I have to try your recipe when the strawberries come in this June. Thanks, L!

This reminds me of the strawberry pies my mom always made, but yours sounds (and looks) so much better! I'm going to have to give your recipe a try this spring/summer. I really LOVE the decorative piping you did with the whipped cream, it really elevates this humble pie to a place of glory! It's stunning, and your photos are perfection. :)

Hi,
I want to make this pie, but I need help...
I live in Portugal, so I don't have Jell-O.
I have another brand of Jello but to make it I don't had sugar. To make the Jell-O you have to add sugar?
To make my Jello I use 500 ml of water (+- 17 oz). Is it the same for Jell-O?
Thank you...

This is way tooo sugary!!!! I made the pie and we are all having a sugar overload. It ruined the whole pie. :-( Do not follow the recipe if you don't want to just toss it in the garbage!

I agree with the other comment above. The photos here are beautiful, and the recipe seems easy enough. I'm sure with a decrease of the sugar amount (which is waaaay, waaay too much), this will be delicious.

How heavenly looking. In my house there's rarely ever "too much sugar" in anything, so it might fit the bill as it is. jan

Lizzy said...

I just e-mailed you with my recipe...forgot to add that there was also 2 cups water. Looks like mine does have a lot less sugar...only 1/2 cup.
