Mosaic Hearts for Mosaic Monday

I finally got to it!
I have been wanting to try my hand at making a mosaic project.
I bought some glass tiles and broken china on eBay a few years ago.
Then found a box of supplies at a garage sale.
I used a coupon to purchase the cutter and picked up a few heart shaped pieces of wood.
And it all sat in the closet ~ until now.
This Valentine's Day I would make some hearts for the little girls in my life.
Not sure where to begin, I donned a pair of goggles and began cutting some pieces and playing around with a design.  Trying to make the finished heart a little more useful, I added a tiny peg that can be used to hang a necklace or two. I glued down each piece into place with an adhesive for mosaics.
When the glue was dried, I opened the bottle of grout to find it was rock hard.  Off to the craft store for a new one and then on to the messy work of grouting.
Being sure that all of the spaces and crevices between each cut piece was filled, I scraped the excess off and waited about 30 minutes.
I lightly sprayed the surface with a water bottle and began rubbing away the grout that covered each tile.
Finally each little heart was finished.  A loop of ribbon was glued to the back and covered with a heart-shaped piece of card stock.
With an 'I love you!' sticker on the back, these hearts are ready to box up and make their way to the post office on Monday bound for some precious little girls that melt my heart.

These are adorable Lorraine. As a little girl, I loved something with my name on it...your sweeties are going to love hanging their necklaces or hair ribbons on these little hearts. They each have such beautiful names too. Hope you have a great week.

I've been looking over your older posts (I know I've missed out on so much lately)and you photos are awesome!!! Love all your crocheting too.

Have a blessed evening...Tracy :)

Those are way too cute! I didn't know you could buy broken china off eBay. Interesting. I thought I was going to have to break china to do this kind of craft and I didn't have the heart to do that (break china).

You sound like me buying things with intentions of making something and then letting it sit.
These turned out really nice. I love the color choices and the pieces with the little roses on them are perfect. I bet they are going to just love these

GASP......Those are gorgeous! You're way ahead of me with the mosaics. I collected things I thought I would use for that purpose one day, then finally gave it to the Salvation Army. I realized it was probably one craft beyond what I was actually going to do. Your's are beautiful!

Oh, Lorraine, they are fantastic! I have been wanting to try my hand at mosaic, also. I would like to do a bird bath ~ but perhaps should start with something a little smaller for the first time!

Won't your little sweethearts just love their mosaic hearts! Such treasures from a special grammy!
Blessings!

I so enjoyed getting caught up on your last few posts, and you warmed my heart with your recent projects. What wonderful gifts these hearts will make ~ you did a beautiful job!

And Raider's scarf! It truly makes him look dapper, as you said. Why, his photos could be on the cover of a doggy magazine!

I was very touched by your post about your grandmother's crochet hooks. What a wonderful legacy she created that was passed down to your mother and to you. From her hands down to yours, these crochet hooks have made many wonderful, warm items of love.

And Happy Belated Birthady to your husband!
