With a Grateful Prayer and a Thankful Heart: At the Feeders

At the Feeders

I was able to snap a few shots of birds visiting the bird feeder wreath before it was decimated by a gluttonous squirrel.  I stood at the window and watched him devour the various treats and then nibble at the string used to tie the peanut butter and seed covered pine cones to the wreath.  After dropping each one to the ground, this industrious rodent, using his tiny hands, barely secured a large pine cone in his mouth and gleefully ran away.

I am only guessing at the names of the birds ~ let me know if I have misidentified any

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come, Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home, When Jesus is my portion. My constant friend is He: His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me; His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free, For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Oh, your birds are adorable! I love feeding them, also. I go thru over 20lbs a week! And they would eat more if I put it out there! Squirrels aren't the only greedy little buggers! Our Stellars Jays are so greedy, messy and bullies to the other birds! But they are so beautiful to watch!
I love that hymn, too! When small, my girls would climb into the apple trees and sing it to their mamma! The birds never trilled so sweetly!
Blessings!

Lorraine before coming to Oklahoma to stay with my daughter Wendy..I decided to bring in my winter wreath off the front porch..before opening the front door..I paused..I had heard something..woosh..their they go 3 little sparrows who had built a nest in my wreath...I am so thankful I hadn't made it thru the front door yet...lol

I love that song!!!!

Those squirells are quite destructive. With our big garden at home they are considered wanted...dead or trapped..and removed from property.
They can hoard as much food as an adult needs to survive..where do they hide it all? lol

I secretly love to watch them in the front yard...they are quite comical..now If they would only learn to stay out of the backyard.
A girl can dream!!

Wow, LDH, you are getting good with the camera. Taking all those bird photos is nothing short of amazine. By the way, that rapscallion squirrel must be the cousin of the little "bugger" who attacked my brownies. Susan

Unfortunately squirrels can be quite greedy!

I enjoyed looking at all the birds who visited your wreath to enjoy the seed and peanutbutter. I see mainly sparrows at my feeder in winter.

I'm not very good at identifying birds yet but I do love your photos. I mainly get sparrows at my feeder so I know those are right :)
I had to laugh when I pictured the squirrel running off with the pinecone. He must have been very proud of his little treasure

Those are amazing photos! I enjoy watching birds so it was a lovely surprise to come on your blog and see all the beautiful pictures. I think the cardinal looks so dignified. And that hymn is one of my favorites.

Your photos are so amazing ~ I almost feel like I'm right there with you! Beautiful birds and an industrious squirrel ~ what fun!

That hymn is one of my very favorites. I love it sung by Ethel Waters. She used to sing it during the Billy Graham crusades.

Your homemade valentines in your previous post were just great. What a special project to do with your grandchildren. I'm tucking this idea away ~ I'll be able to share it with my grandchilden in a couple years! Thanks for sharing!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, simply beautiful. ALL of the photos. I'm so into watching birds, this once again, was a special treat for me. [love how you captured the cardinal]

I haven't seen a cardinal since I was 15 and moved out west. What a beautiful shot...actually all of them are, but the cardinal evoked the sigh of nostalgia.
