Raider Up-Date

(previous post describes the details of our honeybee encounter)
My little puppy is very sick. (I call him a puppy but he is really 7 years old and weighs 20 pounds) We received a call from the vet at 2:30 this morning (Our Veterinarian is one of the only ones in the area that also provides emergency services).  They found some blood in his urine and it is a concern.  It could mean a couple of things.   One is not good but the other is almost always fatal.

The vet that was on duty when we arrived yesterday just called and she sounded more optimistic but still guarded. She said she has never seen such a massive assault of bees.  They removed 18 stingers through the night, she removed half a dozen yesterday and she doesn't know how many more were taken or how many they have missed. She said Raiders face was very swollen and if you put your hand within 6 inches of his face he backed away.  He is in much pain even with with the pain meds, steroids, antihistamines.

This morning, the vet felt Raider looked a little better to her.  His blood pressure is okay.  We opted to pass on more tests and put our money on treatment and keeping him there in the hospital.  He is awake and tried to eat but it is difficult for him probably because of the trauma around his face and because of the stress on his system.  They are watching for bruising (peticia) which would indicate the most serious condition and that his immune system doesn't turn on itself (she called it decompensate). We are all hoping his little body can make a turn and start getting all of this venom out.

Thank you for your prayers and comments!
My very sweet, very loving Raider giving kisses
 ♥

Godd Morning. I didn't post yesterday..Instead I prayed. We had this happened to a horse..he didn't make it tho. He was stung over a 1000 times. Raider did his job by keeping them off your grandson..he is a little hero.Ya'll need to drink lots of water..take the benadryl to help your bodies fight off the poison also. You will be in prayers all day!!Thanks for the update.

I have tears in my eyes reading this. I know how much you love your "boy"...and I know how hard it is to see him suffer. I don't know how God feels about prayers for pets but He is getting a "get well" request for your little buddy! Special hugs to you today- Diana

i just read your post from yesterday, and am sobbing for you and little Raider. i know how helpless you can feel when a dear little fuzzy baby is sick (we lost our 5 yr old doggie to cancer a few years ago) they can't tell you how they feel. i'm praying fervently for God to heal him, and i know he hears our prayers for our beloved pets, because he loves them and He loves us, and cares about what grieves our hearts. please keep us updated!

Hoping that Ranger's body fights this and that he's soon home with his family.

What a traumatic event that must have been for your grandson -- I just read yesterday's post now -- I am relieved that you and him are not having bad reactions that those terrible bee stings.

What a wonderful and caring neighbor Maribeth proved herself to be --

Blessings as you wait for news of Raider's health ...

Oh, I will be praying for poor Raider. Schnauzers are always such joyful, curious dogs --- and sometimes they really can get themselves in trouble. We have two -- and they send hugs to Raider! I hope he gets completely well --- very soon! So sorry for his trauma.

Oh LDH. I'm SO SAD for Raider. I was hoping all was well today and that the poor little dear dog came home. No such luck. Well, let's hope he can be a fighter and survive this.

Our Honey Cat got bitten by a snake in Arizona and it was touch and go for several days. It must NOT have been a rattler because survive she did, and now she's an east coast cat! Talk about surviving nine lives!

God bless you, LDH. How's the grandson? God bless him, too, and Raider. Susan
