Show and Tell Friday ~ Smoking Table

This sweet little table was made by John's grandfather and given to us many years ago from John's Aunt Marie.
It is a smoking table and held JHH Seniors pipe and smoking paraphernalia.
Originally there was a small drawer in the front but was missing when we received it.
John closed the opening with a piece of wood and I attached a decorative piece before painting over the dark stain.
I didn't have to create a 'chippy' look as everything at my place gets nicks and dings the old fashioned way... just by living with it
:)

I am going to try this again. I keep losing posts here for some reason. I can't figure out why that happens here..

Anyway- I love your little smoking stand. A great idea to put that piece across the front and add the wood applique to it.

I have my father's stand, too. I guess I should say I did-I gave it to my son last Christmas for his new house. It is green a still has quite a bit of gilt on it. I don't know where he found it but it looks like it belonged to someone that had a bit of wealth. I will have to take a picture of it when my son gets everything set up at his house.

Our stuff gets knicked and bumped and banged too when the grands are here...but I want them to be able to live in the house. They do know to be good with things so they aren't destructive...just kids being kids...and NO jumping on the furniture-lol

Off to bed for me...work will roll around early tomorrow! Hugs..have a wonderful weekend- xxoo Diana

That's such a sweet table and the "missing drawer" solution was a great one! What's even better is the memory attached to it. I have a piece of furniture that my Dad made ~ it's such a blessing to have that little part of him.

What a great little table. Love your restoration job. I've always thought that the distressed look was great, didn't have to worry as much about getting dings or scratches :)

What a cool little table. I'd never heard of a smoking table before. You and your sweetie did a nice restoration job.

What a beautiful table - I never would have guessed its original purpose! Your sharing the pictures of John's grandfather gives it such a personal touch. I loved your comment about not needing to create a chippy look; the same thing happens here! Nothing is too precious except the grandchildren!

LDH, what a lovely tribute and constant reminder of family. Preserving those gifts keeps the genealogy alive, along with a record of the old photos. Great post.
