Favorite Photo Friday and Finding Beauty

All shots were taken with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel
I like the angle of this astilbe flower because of the star-like pattern that isn't noticeable when viewing from the side. I also like the background blur as well as the textures. Simple pink and green pallet too.
Contrast was added but not much more.

We spend so much time here on the patio, having supper most nights and relaxing. It is one of my very favorite places to be. I find it just fills my senses. Green is everywhere in the old trees that line the length of the street, the boxwoods that hedge in and provide privacy to the patio, the grass and the bushes. Pops of color from the currently blooming flowers and from the window boxes. Birds chipping and flying back and forth to the nest up in the corner of the roof. Hummers at the feeder. The sweet fragrance of flowers especially when the lilac was blooming. The activity of hopping bunnies, squirrels chasing each other in the trees and the scurrying chipmunk (the occasional vole/shrew totally undoes me and ruins the experience) The backdrop of blue sky and white clouds. The dapples light filtering in through the trees. And the soft rustling of the leaves from the gentle breeze. I also enjoy my Schnauzer in the tree :) Maybe that's why I love this spot so much... it is so dreamy with a bit of fantasy.

Kind of posed if you call handing camera to husband and grabbing much loved grandson for a birthday hug. (I won't tell you how sad he was that he couldn't come home with us last night and miss school today. This mom-mom is picking him up from school this afternoon to spend the weekend with us)

Lemon cake with lemon filling, cream cheese frosting and sprinkled with coconut

Happy late birthday to Jared....May his teenage years be filled with wonderful memory-making moments. Loved the flower picture with the star shape, LDH. Just lovely. And ohhhhh, your patio looks inviting. Wish we could sit out on our side porch but too many mosquitos. Someone recommended Yard Guard, though, and I got some. Chemical or not, I'm going to try it! Take care and have a great day. Sincerely, Susan

Happy Birthday Jared! The cake sounds so very tasty! I love seeing your favorite place to enjoy nature and have summertime suppers. The astilbe photo is so pretty - interesting to see the star pattern from up above the bloom. Always refreshing to visit with you Lorraine. Sounds like you are going to have a busy weekend. Enjoy!

Hello Lorraine,

Happy Belated Birthday to Jared! What a lovely cake. My youngest loves lemon, maybe I should make something like this to have after our Sunday dinner. I love the picture of you and Jared. So sweet. Love the shot of the astilbe flower and I can also see why you spend so much time on your patio, it looks so serene.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Love your Favorite spot!! I enlarged the photo and can sure see why! So charming. My favorite spot is on my patio, but it isn't pretty yet. I'm working on it, though, and it should be gorgeous when those fall nights come around!

That cake is beautiful gal! I love the little touches, and how on earth did you write so perfectly on coconut??!! Talent...talent!

Have a great weekend!

What a beautiful cake for your grandson's birthday. Happy Birthday to him!
I love your patio. We spend a lot of time on our patio too, but it's not as pretty and cozy as yours. I will need to work on decorating it.

Happy Birthday to Jared! I am sure you all are enjoying the birthday weekend together :o) Yummm, his cake looks amazing. And I love the scene of your porch and the flower (It looks like it is coming right off the photo.)

Blessings & Aloha!
(just wanted to pop over and say hi, before my hubby and I have to get some errands done. My blog reading time is so limited!)

Boy! 13 can be such a fun age! I was just thinking that at my youngest' sons (13 years old) baseball game yesterday. All of the boys are 13 (or there abouts) and they sure are some sweet characters.

I have and astilbe plant - but never thought to look at it from above - it is really quite beautiful. I like how the blooming part is the background for the budding head (did i get that right?) A very neat perspective.

That cake looks wonderful - do you have a recipe for that? I am very partial to lemon - and that one looked great and refreshing for a hot summer day!
