Show and Tell Friday ~ Scotty

Many of you know about our cute little schnauzer over in my sidebar. But this post is about one of the sweetest, friendliest pups that ever lived.

Scotty
He was a mixed breed (we were told part lab - part terrier, but who knows) who came from the Animal Orphanage~just a round ball of fur.

And he grew...

(This is the picture that convinced us he needed a groomer)

into a 90 plus pound lap dog...
that everyone loved. He was frequently found lying in the front yard to greet each person that walked by. Even strangers had a "Hello, Scotty!" as they passed by. Some even chose the route just so they could visit with him.

After a bout with Lyme's Disease, he suffered from joint pain especially in his front paws. Daily aspirin regiment helped for a long time but then it was on to Rimadyl. Later we covered all bare floors with rugs so he wouldn't slip. Time and again we were confronted with the decision about the pain he was having and his quality of life. We talked with the vet. We waited. One day we woke up and his front paws were so swollen. We knew.
Here is Scotty with us on the day of our daughters' wedding in June 2002, just four days before he died. He kind of moseyed over to be in the photo. What a great 13 and a half years we enjoyed with him!

My BIL said it best. "Scotty is the kind of dog you get once in a lifetime!"

Oh my! Scotty got "really" big. Was he a Schnauzer mix? My Fritz is going on 12 years and he has really slowed down a lot. He has been part of our family since he was 6 weeks old. Can't imagine my house without him.
Hugs,
tara

I loved this...looks so much like my Gus only much larger. Gus WAS suppose to be a miniature and turned out to be a Standard. Scotty must be a GIANT..LOL. He is so handsome in that wedding pic! I'm sure you treasure that photo for many reasons.

Raider..is one CUTE Schnauzer! Whatta face!

Thanks for sharing about Scotty...I just think Schnauzers have wonderful..personable..personalities that make each one unique.

Blessings..

So sweet. Dogs bring joy to our lives. Furry friends.
Our neighbor's golden got away from them today. She ended up at our front door. My son, Andrew, used to walk her. She loves him and misses him.

Oh, how sweet. My Suzi, that I have now is that kind of doggy. The best there ever was. She's 15 1/2 years old, but seems perfectly healthy so far. Rosie

What a sweet tribute to a wonderful friend. He was quite handsome. Your BIL is right. I once had a special dog but unfortunately we only had 5 years together. Although I have had other dogs and have loved each one dearly, I have not had that special bond that was unique to Walker and I with any of them.

Awwww what a lovely pictorial story! I know you missed him for a long time. Do you have a new puppy now?

Wow he got really big but he sure was a cute one. I know how heartbreaking it can be to see them in pain but not wanting to let them go, I went through that with 2 chocolate labs.

Thank you for sharing about your Scotty with us. He was well-loved and very blessed to have you as his family. We have had 4 dogs, 3 living to old age, and each one added her own special gift to our lives. It was our Molly, a black lab/chow mix, who got our daughters through their teen years; she was the best listener! Our 4th dog is a 2 year old golden retriever, Lucy, who keeps us young and is a wonderful companion to our grandchildren.
