Show and Tell Friday ~ Childhood Table and Chair Set

My daughter, Jamie was telling me how happy she is that her son, Noah comes home from kindergarten and excitedly tells her all about his day. She expected such conversations from her daughter but heard boys tend to be less open to sharing such detail.

We reminisced when she and her twin sister would arrive home from kindergarten and would clamor to tell me every detail of their time away. The three of us would sit at a child-sized table and chair set that was given to me when I was three years old. We ate our lunch together and listened with great delight about the happenings of the day.
How sweet that my brother and sister posed with me with my new table and chair set.
Christmas 1960.

This table and chair set has been in almost constant service for nearly 50 years. It matched the set my parents used in the kitchen. When I outgrew playtime, it was used for a sturdy storage table and the chairs used as step stools.

Its intended purpose resumed again when my own children were toddlers. (Jill, Jamie and cousin, Katie 1983)

I love the story behind the table. It's so retro! It reminds me a lot of the kitchen table my grandparents had for years.

I always enjoy seeing your Show and Tell and reading your stories. I also didn't realize that you had twin daughters too, although it looks like yours might be identical from the pictures.

Blessings,
Kayren

This is so cute! I remember when we had one like your parent's table when I was growing up too.

I am going to be looking for a children's table and chairs at garage sales soon for our grands:) I also keep my eyes open for toys for Grammy's toybox!

Don't you just love being a grandma?:)

Hugs,
Linda C

What a treasure ~ and what special memories you have about it. My mom and dad had a table very similar to the set in the last photo. The chairs were aqua and cream.

What special memories your table/chair set holds. We had the kitchen set like your folks but I've never seen the matching childs' set. Wonderful that you have photos through the years.

Oh what fun! I love seeing it used throughout the years! You are soo lucky to still have it.

We bought one for our sons when they were small and they used it constantly. I'm hoping to have grandbabies use it one day.

Enjoy!

I think that it is just so special to have your table and chair set from when you were a child. It is wonderful that it is in use to day for your grandkids. The pictures were so sweet. I bet the table and chairs they make today for kids wouldn't last nearly as long.

That is so fun! Little kids just love furniture their size. It's neat to see the generations enjoying it. Looks like Raider is thinking about enjoying Thanksgiving dinner also... And my parents had a table very similar..chrome legs, grey speckled pattern. Oh, I'll try a sample of JOY the next time I see it--I'd hate to think that I had purchased an old bottle... but, who knows?

What wonderful memories with a simple table & chairs set. We have purchased one for our grnadchildren but it is not as glamourous as yours and is a very ugly yellow & red plastic but suits the purpose.
