Show and Tell Friday ~ Dutch Scene

This picture belonged to my husbands granfather. When he passed away in 1963 it was brought to my in laws home where it hung in their family room. My husband received it in 2001 and it now hangs in our family room.

It is large and appears much brighter in photographs than in actual life. The frame is ornate and beautiful. We originally thought it was German but with the windmill in the background it is obviously Dutch. My husband vaguely remembers mention that there was a summer mate to this winter scene but never saw it.

Such a beautiful picture! It makes me wonder about the artist, someone special, did they paint more? I would love to see it close up to see the brush strokes and colors in real life.

That's beautiful. I love anything with a Dutch theme, especially windmills and the Old Dutch Masters.
